This May, three creative Nevada Middle School students were selected as finalists in the Photovoice Missouri contest.  All from Nevada Middle School, the three winners worked hard to find situations that affected their health – and what could be changed for the better. Harleigh Rapp’s photo called attention to some risky paths in her neighborhood, pointing out that it was dangerous to walk in the street, but with no sidewalks, the only other choice was to risk the ire of neighbors by walking in their yard. While Harleigh’s photo focused on her neighborhood, Morgan Smith’s focus was on her school. Her vivid photo drew attention to basketballs that were locked up after school. She proposed a policy change with a plan to check out basketballs. Similarly, Madison Shipley’s photo and caption proposed a policy change that would allow students to choose to drink water for lunch.

All three finalists won iPad Minis, courtesy of Healthy Nevada.
